End of the year reflection: 13 Journal Prompts for 2023

Bye 2022, hello 2023… Waaait, what? How did this year go by so quickly?

Second year living on an island, travelling through Indonesia and Europe, surfing my little heart out, finally starting my own blog, tears of happiness, butterflies, pure joy, heartbreak, rejection, grieve and pain of letting go… My past 12 months were a pure rollercoaster and I have been feeling all the feels! At times I just gave in, surrendered and went with the flow. So here I am now, a bit overwhelmed by everything that has happened in the past year. And I feel like I want to sort out my thoughts and think about what the heck actually happened.

Let’s just say: It’s journal time! The end of the year is the perfect time to sit down and think about the last year, learn from it and set some new intentions. I like to take extra time for this process (after all, a lot happens in a whole year). For me, it helps to physically write down things instead of just thinking about them, so that I really take time to answer the questions.

Why reflection is a powerful tool

I mean, we make a lot of decisions every day – some of them consciously, some unconsciously, some with little impact on the future and some with a big impact on our lives (or the lives of others). At the same time, our everyday life happens. And wow, sometimes it just swirls us around! That’s how unconsciously decisions happen super quickly and without us noticing. That’s where (for me at least) the reflection process comes in. Why did I do this and that? Why did I reacted the way I did? Was it good? Do I want to change my behaviour next time?

I think reflection is super important in order to lead a more conscious life, through which everything does not just get lost in the daily routine.

“Reflection helps identify what nourishes you so you can make better decisions as you seed the next season of life.” Ryder Carroll
